Pre book Appointments

Appointments are available to book in advance. Please call after 11:00am if you wish to pre-book an appointment.

Face to face appointments are available to book online - this is in line with DOH requirements. If you wish to register for online access, please click on the link at the top of this page or download the NHS app.

Our receptionists have been trained to ask you questions so they are able to direct you appropriately. Please be patient with the staff while they try to assist you.

Urgent Appointments

Please call the practice at 08:00am for same day emergency appointments. These appointments are for acute medical emergencies for which you will be offered a 5-minute appointment.

The appointment will be for the emergency problem only. The doctor will not have time to discuss blood test results, longer term problems etc. 

The practice nurse is able to deal with a number of problems such as removal of stitches, minor wounds, dressing changes, weight loss advice, smear tests, child immunisations and long-term conditions management such as Diabetes, Asthma etc.

Our HCA provides dressings, B12, blood pressure checks, NHS Health Checks, ECGs and weight checks.

You can book directly for the HCA by calling 020 8491 3310.

You can pre-book a telephone appointment with a GP Monday - Friday regarding a routine query which can be dealt with over the phone.

For urgent queries you will be directed to the on-call doctor who will call you back on the same day.

As part of Wanstead & Woodford PCN (Primary Care network) you can now book an appointment in the evening and on Saturday to see a GP, nurse or HCA.

THIS IS NOT A WALK IN SERVICE

We can now refer you to a community pharmacist for certain conditions. Our reception staff will advise when it is appropriate for you to  be referred to this service. The referral will be done immediately and sent electronically to your pharmacy of choice. They will contact you direct with an appointment that day. This is an NHS Service provided to give greater access to medical care.

This is not a walk-in service

We are no longer able to send SMS text message appointment reminders. Please ensure you make a note of your appointment when making a booking.

You can also check or cancel an appointment using our telephone system 24 hours day. Please listen for this option when you call the practice and follow the instructions given to access this service.

If you're planning to travel outside the UK you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world. Please ensure you contact the surgery at least 6 weeks before you are due to travel so that you will have enough time to have any vaccinations before you leave.

GP Training

The Elmhurst Practice is a training practice with Dr Lath as the lead trainer. This means that every 12-18 months we may have a new registrar in place. These are fully qualified doctors with several years experience who have chosen general practice as their specialty. It is a 3 year course of which 1 year is spent in general practice itself and at the end of which the doctor sits the MRCGP which is the Membership of The Royal College of General Practitioners. Once this is achieved the doctor can set up a practice of their own if they wish to do so.

Undergraduate Teaching

Since November 2012 we have been a Barts and The London Teaching Practice for undergraduate teaching, therefore medical students will be undertaking some of their education in this practice and you may see a medical student in addition to your doctor.

This is an important part of their training as future doctors, and all student activity is supervised by your doctor.

However, if you prefer to see the doctor alone without the student being present then you are completely free to do so. This will not affect your treatment or care in any way.

Please let the receptionist know if you would prefer to be seen without a student present.

Our Practice is committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed at all times and the safety of every-one is of paramount importance.

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. This chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present.

Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.

If you wish to have a member of the Practice staff present during your consultation please mention this to our reception staff when booking your appointment, or to the doctor at your consultation, and it will be arranged.
